Paulo Coelho Quotes
Paulo Coelho (Aug 24, 1947, born in Rio d Janeiro, Brazil) is a lyricist and author who is well known for his famous book The Alchemist.
Early Life:
Since his teenage days, Paulo Coelho knew he wanted to become a writer and even expressed the same to his parents. However, his parents had the opposite plans for him. It was his tendency to not follow the traditional path of career choice like engineering due to which his parents sent him to a mental institution. However, he managed to escape it thrice and finally finished his term there at the age of 20.
Following his parents advise he got enrolled into law school only to drop out of within a year. There on he started his life as a hippie and spent his time traveling between South America, North America, Mexico, and Europe. He even started using drugs way back in the 1960s.
Writing Career:
After trying his luck with becoming a songwriter, composing lyrics, working as an actor, theatre director, and journalist, he finally started writing. He wrote his first book Hell Archives in 1982 that made a lukewarm impact on the readers.
Paulo Coelho’s book The Pilgrimage (published in 1987) is his autobiography where he described his spiritual awakening.
In an interview in 1986, Paulo Coelho said “I was very happy in the things I was doing. I was doing something that gave me food and water – to use the metaphor in The Alchemist (1988), I was working, I had a person whom I loved, I had money, but I was not fulfilling my dream. My dream was, and still is, to be a writer.”
By the time Paulo Coelho published his book Brida he found a bigger publishing house and his struggle as a writer was over. His books The Pilgrimage, Hippie, The Valkyries, and Aleph are based on his life and are thus autobiographical, however, rest is mostly fictional.
Paulo Coelho is one of the most popular writers in today’s time with his work published in 170 countries, translated into eighty languages. He is listed by UK-based company Richtopia as 200 of the most influential contemporary authors.
His quotes are famous inspiring millions through his books and social media. I have put together some of his most powerful and popular quotes that are almost like a bible to the principles I live by.
