Creating Mindfulness

Every day for as long as you have been alive – you have run most of your life on auto gear without creating mindful  moments. Moving from one minute to another without thinking… the pancakes the toast the eggs and the newspaper. We go through our daily life in a very routine manner.

Being Mindful

Many a time that means we don’t think about ‘being’ (mindful) in the moment. Saying ‘present sir’ to that second in our life that we are living out. In fact even while we are chewing on a toast reading the headlines from the paper our mind may be far away at a meeting we are to attend later in the day. And best of all we don’t even know that its happening.

What we don’t know is that while all of this is happening our mind is charting out a course for the next hour day week month based on ‘habit’.  Our mind has a bank of information from our past that it effectively uses to build the future in our minds. Many a time the future it builds will not become the ‘moment’ as our mind sees it, however it certainly causes us a lot of stress …just thinking about it!

The trick is to become more aware of our thoughts, feelings, and signs from our body and the world around. Taking our mind out of automatic gear and putting it in manual gear. That way we decide our next moment better.

Being mindful in the moment you will soon realize that you have not extinguished your thoughts. Instead,  you now know how and when to feed them, and how you can stop feeding them at will.

Thanks to your awareness!

Moreover, you will soon take note that many of your thoughts are assumptions rather than truths. Creating mindfulness also means that your thinking becomes more nuanced, mindful and less judgmental as it goes on.  What is fascinating to the mind, as you become aware and mindful in the moment you pick up information from your body or from emotions that parallel the thinking process in your mind.

It’s called creating mindfulness. And it is all about changing the focus of our attention. Try it, you will love the results!
